Pro-Life Help Needed in Joplin, MO!

This Sunday, the city of Joplin, Missouri was hit by one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy. As they begin to recover, volunteers and organizations in the devastated area desperately need help reaching out to those in need, including the local pregnancy resource center.

LifeChoices Medical Clinic and Resource Center has been visiting mothers affected by the tornado in shelters and damaged homes and apartments throughout the town assessing their needs and offering assistance. Their office, located several blocks from the tornado damage, remains open, but supplies are going fast. Items needed include diapers, wipes, pre-mixed formula and infant clothing. Monetary donations are also appreciated and can be sent to LifeChoices either online at lifevoices.org or by check and mailed to: LifeChoices, 531 E. 7th St., Joplin, Mo., 64801. Donations are tax deductible and Missouri residents and corporations are eligible for an additional 50 percent state income tax credit for donations of $100 or more. Visit dss.mo.gov/dfas/taxcredit/pregnancy.htm for more information.

Pro-life pregnancy care centers in other parts of Missouri are also stepping up and collecting items for LifeChoices to distribute to Joplin moms and babies. There are six drop-off spots to leave items that will then be taken directly to LifeChoices at some point in the future (at the moment no one except emergency personnel are allowed to enter Joplin). Gov. Nixon Funds Alternatives to Abortion Program Despite $60 Million in Budget Cuts

Great news!

Over suggestions from the Missouri Health Department, the new state budget includes the funding for an abortion alternatives program. The Alternatives to Abortion program (ATA) provides a wide range of emergency services to women facing crisis pregnancies.

In response to a request from pro-abortion Gov. Jay Nixon to identify cuts in the state budget given the current fiscal crisis in Missouri, officials with the state health department proposed slashing the program’s funding in June.

However, a review of the new budget Nixon submitted shows funding for ATA is fully intact for the full amount of nearly $2 million.

That the program remains is significant given that Nixon included $60 million in spending cuts in his new budget.

Oppose Cuts to Missouri Alternatives to Abortion Program!

Jay NixonDue to the shortfall in the Missouri budget, Governor Nixon is considering cuts to various programs. He requested all state departments to recommend programs that can be cut or their funding reduced. In response, the Mo. Department of Health, headed by pro-abortion former Rep. Margaret Donnelly, is recommending cuts to the Alternatives to Abortion program (ATA).

Through the ATA, women in crisis pregnancies receive a variety of services including job placement, housing, medical care, and adoption referrals. These services have been proven to help women choose life for their unborn child. In these difficult economic times, we know providing assistance to women experiencing crisis pregnancies can make all the difference in the decision to carry a child to term or end that child’s life in the womb. The numbers of abortions in Missouri has been dropping steadily for many years. The ATA program has been a key component in the success of that effort.

Contact Governor Nixon now. Ask him to retain the Missouri Alternatives to Abortion Program. The lives of hundreds, if not thousands of unborn babies could be at risk. The physical and psychological health of Missouri women experiencing unplanned pregnancies could be in danger.

In January, Gov. Nixon promised pro-life Missourians to fully fund the Alternatives to Abortion program at $1,949,512. He needs to fulfill that promise. Missouri’s unborn children and pregnant women should not pay the price for these uncertain economic times.
