Proposed Federal Legislation Threatens Freedom of Speech: NRLC and MRL urge opposition to “Disclose Act” (H.R. 5175)

The House of Representatives plans to take up the so-called “Disclose Act” ( H.R. 5175) when it returns next week. This legislation was crafted in response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. FEC (2010). While this legislation purports to require the disclosure of important information to the public, according to National Right to Life, it will:

“. . . discourage, as much as possible, disfavored groups (such as NRLC) from communicating about officeholders, by exposing citizens who support such efforts to harassment and intimidation, and by smothering organizations in layer on layer of record keeping and reporting requirements, all backed by the threat of civil and criminal sanctions.”

You can read the complete letter from NRLC to the U.S. House of Representatives at this link:

Your Action Needed:

MO Congressman Ike Skelton, District 4, is a co-sponsor of this legislation. Calls to his Washington and District Offices are crucial. If you live in District 4, please call Cong. Skelton and urge him to remove his sponsorship and to oppose H.R. 5175.
