And it makes no difference to the child if she is inside or outside of her mother’s womb.”

Missouri Senate Passes Ban on Web-cam Abortions;

MRL Calls on House to Finally Pass and Send HB 400 to the Governor

Missouri Right to Life applauds those in the Missouri legislature who voted for HB 400. The original bill passed the House with a bipartisan veto-proof majority of 115 to 39. The amended bill passed the Senate with a veto-proof majority of 23 to 7. Amendments to the bill require that the House vote to confirm the Senate amendments. The bill will then move to the Governor’s desk.

“This legislation bans web-cam abortions in Missouri and ensures that women will meet with a doctor in person at the time she begins the RU 486 abortion. This legislation protects women from those in the abortion industry who seek to profit from RU 486 abortions by providing sub-standard care to women,” said Pam Fichter, president of Missouri Right to Life.

“RU 486, the two-drug regimen, can cause severe bleeding and cramping. It can fail to abort the baby and can cause birth defects. Often these women deliver a dead baby by themselves. The drug can cause toxic shock and death. The FDA requires the notice of the possibility of death on the label of Mifeprex, the first pill taken,” stated Fichter.

“When web-cam abortions began in Iowa, the number of abortion clinics increased from 5 to 17, continued Fichter. We do not want this happening in Missouri. We urge the House to finally pass HB 400. We call upon Governor Nixon to sign this life-saving legislation.”

We thank the sponsors of this bill, Representative Jeanie Riddle and Senator Wayne Wallingford, the House and Senate leadership and all those that voted for this important legislation.

How could we have let the world become what it has become? Why has God allowed this to happen? It surely is how the apostles and disciples felt on that Good Friday so many years ago. They no doubt asked themselves, “How could this have happened? This man we believed would lead us to victory has died. Fear and confusion has gripped us.”

What would God have said to them? What did he say to them 2,000 years ago? Fear Not. Peace Be With You.

And then, in the midst of all their fear, comes the Resurrection of the Lord. And that resurrected Lord lives with us still. He is here in our midst. Fear Not. Peace Be With You. Put Your Faith in the Lord. Die with him and be born again in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus is real. The Resurrection is real. Fear Not. Peace Be With You.

Missouri Right to Life wishes you and your families a blessed and peace-filled Easter. He is Risen! Alleluia!

Missouri Right to Life

Press Release

For Immediate Release
March 12, 2013
For Information
573-635-5110

Missouri House Passes HCS HB 457 – Addressing the Rights of Religious Conscience

Today the Missouri House third read and passed HCS HB 457, which contains broad conscience clause protections that specify that anyone providing or participating in a medical procedure or research cannot be required to participate or provide services that violates his or her religious, moral, or ethical principles that are adherent to a sincere and meaningful belief in God or in relation to a supreme being.

“Because of the attack on our religious institutions and business leaders who because of their faith choose not to participate in destroying innocent human life this is a real and pressing issue for our pro-life medical professionals,” said Pam Fichter, President of Missouri Right to Life.

Those in the medical and research fields that labor every day to save lives should not be forced to take lives against their religious and moral beliefs. This bill would protect them from negative repercussions by their employers.”

“Missouri Right to Life thanks the members of all the Missouri House who supported this

important legislation,” said Fichter.

HCS HB 457 passed the House by a veto proof bi-partisan vote of 116 to 41. HCS HB 457 now moves to the Senate for consideration.

Some historical events are seared in our memories. Everyone in my generation knows exactly where they were when they heard that President Kennedy had been assassinated. I also remember where I was when I heard that the Supreme Court had legalized abortion-on-demand. I was bathing our infant son … our first child.

The radio announcer reported the story on that January day as though it was no more consequential than the other news items.

I was stunned. After so recently experiencing a life within me, it was hard to believe that the court could deny protection to that child.

I remember calling the pastor of our church and pleading with him to do something to stop this. He assured me that as soon as people learned what an abortion was, that the public outrage would force the decision to be repealed.

While we know what an abortion is – the poisoning or dismembering of a unique living human being – the resulting public outrage has not been sufficient to bring about that predicted repeal.

Today is the 40th anniversary of that decision. My curly-haired baby boy is now a grown man with children of his own. In Biblical terms, 40 years is a generation, and an entire generation of other baby boys and girls have disappeared – close to 56 million – a number difficult to visualize.

Here’s what 56 million looks like. Here are the “Aborted States of America.” The population of these darkened states is almost equal to the reported abortions since 1973.

Today you and I mourn the loss of curly-haired, blonde baby boys and dimpled-cheeked baby girls, and little ones with sweet smiles, soft red hair, or mahogany skin and warm brown eyes. All fresh from the hand of God. We mourn all of these children whose lives were somehow not worthy of protection by the laws of our country.

We re-commit ourselves to never being silent, never being passive, to be active in the pro-life movement, to never stop defending life until all of these children are protected.

And you and I wait for the outrage.

Blessings,

God prepared and ordained a loving woman to give him birth and with her, a loving man to care for and raise him. Let us pray during this season of hope for our communities, our country and our world that is so in need of the presence of Jesus. Let us pray that our innocent children will be cared for and protected by loving adults around them.

Missouri Right to Life wishes you and your loved ones a peace-filled and blessed Christmas!

My young nephew was running his small restaurant in Des Moines earlier this week when one of his employees came in to the store and asked if she could get her paycheck a little early. While he was in the office cutting her check, she sat at one of the WiFi computers to wait. On the screen, the story of the school shootings was being broadcast. The young lady started sobbing uncontrollably.

My nephew came out to console her and brought her back into his office to let her compose herself when she told him, “I needed my paycheck early because I have an appointment at Planned Parenthood this afternoon to have an abortion.” And then she said, “After seeing all of those innocent young children dying and all of those mothers who have had their children taken from them, I can’t go through with this abortion!”

The young girl said she didn’t know where to go for help. My nephew got her in touch with my sister (his mother) who is very active in Iowa Right to Life. God is good!

What if the paycheck had already been cut?

God bless!

(via Priests for Life)

O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord,

Not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.

We thank you for the privilege
Of being able to organize ourselves politically
And of knowing that political loyalty
Does not have to mean disloyalty to you.

We thank you for your law,
Which our Founding Fathers acknowledged
And recognized as higher than any human law.

We thank you for the opportunity that this election
year puts before us,
To exercise our solemn duty not only to vote,
But to influence countless others to vote,
And to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened.
Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation,
Their response to you requires that they be politically active.

Awaken your people to know that they are
not called to be a sect fleeing the world
But rather a community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer
Are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth;
That the same eyes that read your Word
Are the eyes that read the names on the ballot,
And that they do not cease to be Christians
When they enter the voting booth.

Awaken your people to a commitment to justice
To the sanctity of marriage and the family,
To the dignity of each individual human life,
And to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin,
And not one moment later.

Lord, we rejoice today
That we are citizens of your kingdom.

May that make us all the more committed
To being faithful citizens on earth.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Expansion of abortion, rationed healthcare only two of the problems
By Pam Fichter, President, Missouri Right to Life

The 2,409-page “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” commonly called “Obamacare,” contains multiple provisions that allow the federal government complete control of healthcare in our country. If not repealed, it will un- leash countless government mandates, an expansion of abortion, rationing of healthcare, and will prevent Americans from using their own money to save their own lives.

The religious community, in particular the Catholic Church, is strongly opposing, as a violation of fundamental reli- gious liberty, the recent mandate from the Dept. of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) requiring religious-affiliated businesses and institutions to provide insurance coverage for contraception, sterilizations, and abortifacients. However, according to the Na- tional Right to Life Committee, Obamacare contains over 2,500 references to powers and responsibilities granted to the Secretary of HHS giving her the power to issue countless mandates. Call- ing for the withdrawal of this one mandate and not for the repeal of the entire law is like treating the symptom but letting the disease flourish.

Expansion of Abortion

This legislation also represents the greatest expansion of abortion ever passed by the U. S. Congress. The bill contains authorization for abortion coverage under the Pre-Existing Con- dition Insurance Plan, federal subsidies for private health plans that cover elective abortions, authorization for abortion funding through Community Health Centers, and authorization for inclu- sion of abortion coverage in health plans administered by the Federal Office of Personnel Management. And in states that do not opt out of abortion coverage, the PPACA allows Qualified Health Plans that are sold through the new Exchanges to include abortion coverage. The purported protections in the Senate bill are all very narrow, riddled with loopholes, and rigged to expire.

The Hyde Amendment, enacted in 1976, prevents funds appropriated through the regular DHHS appropriation bills to pay directly for abortions or to subsidize health plans that include abortion coverage (except in cases of rape and incest.) The Hyde Amendment will not apply to funding or subsidies created under Obamacare because the funding is made outside of the normal DHHS appropriations.

Rationed Health Care

One of the greatest dangers of the law is the inherent rationing of health care.

The law establishes a powerful 18-member rationing commission, the “Independent Payment Advisory Board,” which is given the duty beginning January 15, 2015, to slow the growth in national health expenditures below the rate of medical infla- tion for both private and governmentally funded health care. The Commission’s recommendations are to be ones that the Secretary of the DHHS or other Federal agencies can implement admin- istratively. In turn the Secretary of the DHHS is empowered

to impose “quality and efficiency” measures on hospitals and requires them to report on their compliance with them. Doctors will have to comply with these quality measures in order to be able to contract with any qualified health insurance plans.

Essentially, doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers will be told by Washington just what diagnostic tests and medical care are considered to meet “quality and efficiency” standards. These standards will be enforced not just for health care paid for by federally funded programs like Medicare, but also for health care paid for by private citizens and by the health insurance they or their employers purchase. These standards are specifically designed to limit the funds that Americans may choose to spend on health care so that they cannot keep up with the rate of medical inflation. Treatment that a doctor and a patient deem needed or advisable to save the patient’s life or preserve or improve the patient’s health but which runs afoul of the imposed standards will be denied, even if the patient is willing and able to pay for it. In effect, there will be one uniform, national standard of care, established by Washington bureaucrats, that is designed to limit what private citizens are allowed to spend to save their own lives.

The PPACA must be repealed to protect Americans from threats against their liberty and their very lives.
