Komen Confuses Relationship With Planned Parenthoo

The following statement can be attributed to Pam Fichter, President Missouri Right to Life:

Recent statements by Susan G. Komen for the Cure confuse the relationship Koman has with Planned Parenthood. Initial reports seemed to indicate that the Komen would no longer be funding Planned Parenthood. Based on those reports many pro-lifers celebrated what appeared to be a major victory. That victory is no longer clear or even certain.

The January 31st statement from Komen stated that, “the cutoff results from the charity’s newly adopted criteria barring grants to organizations that are under investigation by local, state or federal authorities.” The U. S. House of Representatives is investigating Planned Parenthood to determine whether the abortion organization handles criminal conduct properly, or has mishandled federal funding to pay for abortions. Shortly after the news broke, Planned Parenthood began a shrill online campaign to bring Komen to its knees by bullying the organization into submission.

In today’s press release, Komen has confused the issue by promising that only “criminal” investigations will disqualify potential grantees, not political ones and that Planned Parenthood will remain “eligible” for future grants. In that statement Komen also said they,”will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.”

At this point it is difficult to discern whether today’s statement does in fact signal a “reversal” from Komen or how it will affect the foundation’s new commitment to directly fund organizations that provide mammograms. This would exclude Planned Parenthood, which does not perform the procedure.

Planned Parenthood is not in the business of fighting breast cancer; they’re in the business of performing abortions to the tune of more than 300,000 a year, which accounts for at least one-third of Planned Parenthood’s nongovernmental clinic income. In fact, Planned Parenthood has announced that all of their affiliates will be required to perform abortions. Also, evidence suggests that elective abortions significantly increase a woman’s chances of getting breast cancer. Something Komen has never acknowledged.

Missouri Right to Life strongly urges Susan G. Komen for the Cure and all cancer research organizations to approve no future funding to Planned Parenthood, the Nation’s largest single provider of abortions.

Victory for Life! Susan G. Komen for the Cure Cuts Ties to Planned Parenthood

The following statement can be attributed to Pam Fichter, President Missouri Right to Life:

Missouri Right to Life applauds Susan G. Komen for the Cure for its decision to end their financial support of Planned Parenthood.  Komen does great work in the areas of breast cancer awareness, detection, prevention, research and treatment. It is good that they have finally disassociated themselves with the Nation’s largest abortion chain, which is currently under investigation by the Federal Government.

Not only is Planned Parenthood in the business of killing innocent human beings, but undercover investigations in recent years have revealed that they are willing to cover up crimes against underage girls and have also falsely claimed to offer women mammograms. There is also significant evidence to suggest that abortion increases a woman’s risk of getting breast cancer.

We hope everyone who truly cares about women and want to see breast cancer defeated will join us in thanking Susan G. Komen for the Cure for separating themselves from America’s abortion giant by sending an email to news@komen.org.

There are better ways to make sure that poor women have access to breast cancer screenings than giving money to an organization that alone is responsible for roughly three hundred thousand of America’s annual 1.2 million abortions.

Race for the Truth

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer). It isn’t an exaggeration to say that almost all of us know someone who has been affected by this devastating disease and want to do what we can to raise awareness and help find a cure. As the Susan G. Komen “Race for a Cure” makes its way into St. Louis, MO this weekend, pro-lifers should keep a few things in mind:

1) Public records indicate that Susan G. Komen for the Cure (“Komen”) affiliates (Missouri is not among them) provided grants to local Planned Parenthood chapters for breast health care services as recently as 2009.

Though Komen’s grants were for breast health care services, Planned Parenthood (the largest single abortion provider in the country) stated in its 2007-2008 annual report that 31,729 fewer breast exams and 15,560 more abortions were provided in 2007 than in 2006. Also, a recent undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood by the Los-Angeles based Live Action contradicts the claim that they perform mammograms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq0kBkUZbvQ

Donors cannot control how an organization designates its funds. Therefore, money donated for a specific service, i.e. breast health care, directly frees up funds to support other areas of an organization’s agenda, i.e. abortion services.

2. It is highly ironic that the Komen would support an organization that is probably responsible for thousands of women’s deaths annually because of the link between abortion and breast cancer. The Komen website dismisses the link, but many peer-reviewed scientific studies demonstrate the statistical correlation between a previous abortion and a much higher risk of breast cancer in the future. Recent studies include those of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Joel Brind, Ph.D., a professor of Endocrinology and founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, and the work of Dr. Janet Daling, a leading cancer epidemiologist. Daling, a pro-choice advocate, said, “I would have loved to have found no association between breast cancer and abortion, but our research is rock solid, and our data is accurate. It’s not a matter of believing, it’s a matter of what is.”

3. Finally, Komen endorses embryonic stem cell research (ESCR), which requires the destruction of embryonic human life, stating that, “embryonic stem cells are currently considered to have the most potential for use in the regeneration of diseased or injured tissues” for cancer stem cell research. The destruction of human life at any stage of development is never morally acceptable and ESCR is also unnecessary since adult stem cell research has a proven record of cures and treatments.

The patients and families who are victims of this terrible illness remain in our prayers and we encourage all pro-lifers to focus on breast cancer awareness and prevention by spreading the word about and avoiding unnecessary risk factors like elective abortion and supporting some alternative organizations, like the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, that are dedicated to breast cancer awareness without giving money to those who destroy life and endanger women.

Think Before You Buy Pink!

October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer). I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that almost all of us know someone who has been affected by this devastating disease. But if you are one of the millions of Americans who plan to donate to breast cancer research this month, you may want to be careful who you give your money to as those funds could also go to the Nation’s largest abortion provider. Both the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society have been known to give grants to Planned Parenthood. This is problematic not just because PP is in the business of killing innocent human beings (as if that’s not bad enough), but also because there is evidence to suggest that induced abortion may increase the risk of breast cancer.

Think before you buy pink! This month, let us focus on breast cancer awareness and prevention by spreading the word about and avoiding unnecessary risk factors like elective abortion and supporting some alternative organizations, like the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, that are dedicated to breast cancer awareness without giving money to those who destroy life and endanger women.

St. Louis ReviewThe Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness foundation has been worrisome for pro-lifers because of their donations to the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. As the annual Komen sponsored “Race for the Cure” approaches next month in St. Louis, the St. Louis Review offers some advice for concerned Catholics.
